Advanced works with construction of the Plac Zamkowy – Business with Heritage
Construction of the office building the Plac Zamkowy – Business with Heritage is running as scheduled by the investor. The investment is planned to be completed in Q1 2015. It will be then that the first tenants will be able to move in. The most advanced works are now being performed from the side of Miodowa Street, where the construction of the second floor is being erected.
Works are progressing at a various pace since the construction of the building strays from standard solutions. A part of the building on the corner of Miodowa and Senatorska Streets is founded on a bridge construction situated over the East-West route tunnel. It was developed by outstanding engineers from the Polish branch of the famous ARUP company working with a team of specialists from Warsaw University of Technology, and it was done in such a way so as to avoid any conjunction with the East-West route tunnel and to spread the total weight of the facility as effectively as possible. Pre-stressed beams have been used for this purpose, which are supposed to spread the load of this part of the building onto diaphragm walls surrounding the East-West Route tunnel. An unusual element of the installation is the steel cables, made in the beam and placed in special sleeves, which after completion of beams will be stretched as the building is erected (proportionally to the increasing load on the beams), and thus compressing the reinforced concrete construction. This will prevent the beams from bending with the load of the building once it has been completed.
This is not the first such a demanding project for ARUP engineers. They have participated in the design of numerous highly prestigious buildings, such as Sydney Opera House, Centre Pompidou, National Stadium in Beijing, Terminal 3 at the airport in Dubai, or the Museum of Egypt in Giza.
The most advanced construction works are being performed at the side of Miodowa Street, where the construction of the second floor is being erected. The building shell of the whole investment has been completed this month, which means that the reinforced concrete construction of the underground levels has been completed, including the floors on the ground level. Moreover, the foundation of the building and the reinforced concrete construction near the East-West route tunnel have been completed. Now works are being undertaken in order to erect the reinforced concrete construction of the overground levels – poles, floors and walls of the ground, first and second floor of the office building. Their completion is scheduled for Q4 2014. The entire roof construction is also supposed to be completed at that time.
